Hong Leong Islamic Bank (HLISB) is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Manager for our Shariah Audit team. In this critical role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the Bank’s operations, products, and services strictly adhere to Shariah principles and regulatory standards set by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Shariah Advisory Council.
As an Assistant Manager, you will lead audit engagements, conduct in-depth risk assessments, and provide strategic recommendations to management. We are looking for an individual who possesses not only technical proficiency in auditing but also a deep understanding of Shariah governance frameworks. Responsibilities
- Plan and execute Shariah audit programs in accordance with the annual audit plan to ensure compliance with Shariah governance frameworks.
- Perform comprehensive reviews of Islamic banking products, processes, and systems to identify potential Shariah non-compliance risks.
- Prepare high-quality audit reports detailing findings, root causes, and practical recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor the implementation of corrective actions and audit recommendations by relevant business units.
- Provide advisory support to business units on Shariah compliance matters to foster a culture of ethical banking.
- Keep abreast of latest developments in Islamic banking regulations, BNM policy documents, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Shariah Committee members and regulatory authorities.
- Assist in the preparation of periodic reports for the Board Audit Committee and Shariah Committee.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Shariah, Islamic Banking, Finance, Accounting, or a related professional qualification.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in internal/external audit, preferably within an Islamic banking or financial institution environment.
- Strong knowledge of Shariah principles, Muamalat, and BNM Shariah governance policy documents.
- Professional certifications such as CIA, ACCA, or relevant Islamic banking certifications (e.g., IBFIM) will be a distinct advantage.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.
- High level of integrity, professional skepticism, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in both English and Bahasa Malaysia is mandatory.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines.
