Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Xero Bookkeeper to lead the onboarding of new NZ-based clients. In this critical role, you will be responsible for setting up client accounts, migrating historical data, and ensuring a seamless transition onto our systems. You will work closely with the client services team to deliver exceptional service from day one. This is a full-time, remote position with a dayshift schedule that aligns with NZ business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end onboarding of new NZ client accounts in Xero, including initial setup, chart of accounts, and GST registration
  • Migrate and reconcile historical financial data from previous accounting systems
  • Establish and maintain client relationships during the onboarding phase, providing clear communication and training on Xero usage
  • Perform data validation and accuracy checks to ensure clean handover to ongoing bookkeeping teams
  • Create and maintain standardized onboarding documentation and checklists
  • Liaise with clients to gather required financial documents and resolve discrepancies
  • Collaborate with internal teams to streamline onboarding processes and improve client experience
  • Provide post-onboarding support for the first month to ensure smooth transition

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in bookkeeping with a strong focus on Xero
  • Proven experience onboarding or migrating clients in a bookkeeping or accounting firm
  • In-depth knowledge of NZ tax regulations, GST, and payroll standards
  • Xero Advisor or Xero Payroll Certification (preferred)
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client onboarding projects simultaneously
  • Experience working in a remote, virtual team environment
