Our client, a leading engineering firm specializing in custom special purpose machines, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative team in the North Region of Singapore. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical solutions from initial concept through detailed engineering, prototyping, and final production. Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of special purpose machines from concept to production, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Perform structural analysis, tolerance stacking, and GD&T application to guarantee part functionality and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers to integrate subsystems and resolve design conflicts.
- Prepare technical documentation, including BOMs, assembly instructions, and test reports.
- Support prototype build, testing, and validation, iterating designs based on test results and feedback.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by reviewing existing designs and proposing enhancements for cost, performance, and lead time.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in special purpose or custom machinery.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) and familiarity with PDM/PLM systems.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, assembly).
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or simulation tools is a plus.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure to meet project deadlines.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities, with experience working in cross‑functional teams.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to machinery design (e.g., ISO, CE).
