Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality music lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and international standards.
  • Teach a range of musical instruments, vocal techniques, and music theory to students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Organize and direct school choirs, bands, orchestras, and other musical ensembles for performances and competitions.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and reports to students and parents.
  • Develop and maintain a dynamic music programme that includes extracurricular activities, concerts, and cultural events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music across the wider curriculum, supporting school-wide productions and assemblies.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages creativity and respect.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school community events as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent international teaching certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching music in a primary or secondary school setting (international school experience is an advantage).
  • Proficiency in playing at least two musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, violin, or percussion) and strong vocal skills.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills in English; additional language (e.g., Malay, Mandarin) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of current music education pedagogies, including Kodály, Orff, or Suzuki methods.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities, fostering a positive learning culture.
  • Demonstrated experience leading ensembles, concerts, or musical productions.
