Job Description
The National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking a motivated and innovative Research Associate to join our Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Generative AI research group. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of human-centric design and Large Language Models (LLMs). You will work closely with lead investigators to design, prototype, and evaluate novel interactive systems that leverage generative AI to enhance human productivity and creativity.
The ideal candidate is passionate about exploring how AI agents interact with users in real-world contexts and is eager to publish in top-tier HCI conferences (such as CHI, UIST, or CSCW). You will have the opportunity to work in a world-class academic environment, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and collaborating with a diverse team of computer scientists and domain experts.
Responsibilities
- Conduct empirical research and literature reviews on current HCI trends in Generative AI.
- Design and develop interactive prototypes using frameworks like React, Python, and modern AI API integrations.
- Organize and facilitate user studies, including remote and in-person interviews and usability testing.
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to extract meaningful insights and actionable design implications.
- Draft academic papers, technical reports, and grant proposals based on research findings.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to translate research concepts into functional experimental tools.
- Present research outcomes at internal workshops and international academic conferences.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in HCI research, including study design and user evaluation methodologies.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python, JavaScript, and relevant web development frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with LLM prompting, fine-tuning, or working with generative AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, LangChain).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in academic writing.
- A track record of publishing research in reputable HCI or AI-related journals or conferences is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as contribute effectively to a fast-paced research team.
