Job Description
Are you a passionate engineer looking to drive the future of semiconductor technology? The Institute of Microelectronics (IME), under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), is seeking a dedicated Research Engineer or Senior Research Engineer to join our state-of-the-art FAB Operations team in Singapore.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of semiconductor R&D, working in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment. You will bridge the gap between experimental research and industrial-grade fabrication, optimizing processes that shape the next generation of microelectronic devices. This is an exceptional opportunity for professionals eager to tackle complex technical challenges, improve wafer yield, and contribute to Singapore’s robust R&D ecosystem.
We value innovation, precision, and a proactive mindset. If you have a solid background in semiconductor fabrication, process engineering, or device characterization, we invite you to apply and help us push the boundaries of what is possible in microelectronics.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain daily FAB operations to ensure high-quality wafer output and process stability.
- Design and execute experiments for process optimization, including lithography, etching, deposition, or chemical mechanical planarization (CMP).
- Analyze yield data and characterize device performance to identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional research teams to transition lab-scale innovations into mature process flows.
- Maintain equipment performance, ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, and document experimental procedures meticulously.
- Troubleshoot process-related issues during fabrication to minimize downtime and improve cycle times.
- Mentor junior research staff and assist in technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven professional experience in semiconductor FAB operations, process development, or device integration.
- Strong understanding of cleanroom protocols and semiconductor manufacturing equipment (e.g., PVD, CVD, Etch).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (JMP, Python, or Minitab) for statistical process control (SPC).
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive learner, comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment.
