Job Description

Are you ready to shape the future of quantum technology? The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is looking for a driven Research Engineer or Senior Research Engineer I to join the National Quantum Fabless Foundry (NQFF). This is a unique opportunity to be at the heart of Singapore’s world-leading quantum research ecosystem.

In this role, you will work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop, fabricate, and optimize cutting-edge quantum hardware. You will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between theoretical quantum design and experimental realization, contributing directly to the advancement of quantum computing infrastructure in Singapore. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about precision engineering, nanofabrication, and collaborative innovation in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute fabrication processes for superconducting qubits and quantum devices.
  • Conduct lithography and thin-film deposition using advanced cleanroom tools.
  • Analyze device performance data and iterate on design parameters to improve quantum coherence and yield.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional research teams to define technical specifications for experimental quantum hardware.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot high-precision nanofabrication equipment in a cleanroom environment.
  • Document experimental procedures and generate technical reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and safety.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor fabrication or cleanroom environments.
  • Proficiency with CAD software for layout design (e.g., KLayout, L-Edit).
  • Strong understanding of nanofabrication techniques (e.g., E-beam lithography, sputtering, etching).
  • Experience with cryogenic measurements or quantum device characterization is a significant advantage.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues and work with high degree of autonomy.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a multidisciplinary audience.
