Job Description

Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our cutting-edge energy research team. In this pivotal role, you will focus on the design, development, and optimization of advanced power electronics systems specifically tailored for flow-based energy storage technologies.

As part of our dynamic research ecosystem, you will collaborate with leading scientists and engineers to bridge the gap between theoretical energy storage concepts and scalable, real-world power conversion solutions. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the global transition toward sustainable energy by enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and integration of grid-scale energy storage systems.

The successful candidate will lead experimental efforts, prototype high-performance converters, and publish high-impact research findings in leading engineering journals. If you are passionate about power electronics, renewable energy, and pushing the boundaries of technology in an international academic setting, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate advanced power converter topologies suitable for flow-based energy storage systems.
  • Develop control algorithms for battery management and power flow optimization.
  • Fabricate and test hardware prototypes, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate storage systems with grid infrastructure.
  • Analyze experimental data to refine system performance and efficiency.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, research papers, and grant proposals.
  • Mentor junior researchers and students in best practices for power electronics design.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field.
  • Proven track record in power converter design (DC/DC or DC/AC) and control systems.
  • Strong proficiency in simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, or PSpice.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping, PCB layout design, and bench testing.
  • Solid understanding of electrochemistry or battery management systems (BMS) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
  • Strong publication record in reputable IEEE or similar journals.
