Job Description

Unlock the Future of Microelectronics: Senior / Research Engineer, Process Control (FAB)

Are you a visionary engineer passionate about pushing the boundaries of semiconductor technology? The Institute of Microelectronics (IME), a leading research institute under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore, invites a talented and driven individual to join our team as a Senior / Research Engineer focusing on Process Control within our cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication (FAB) environment. This is a unique opportunity to lead technical advancements in semiconductor research and drive innovation that shapes the next generation of electronic devices.

At IME, you will be at the forefront of developing advanced process control (APC) strategies and robust methodologies to optimize complex semiconductor manufacturing processes. Your expertise will be crucial in enhancing yield, improving device performance, and ensuring the reliability of innovative microelectronic components. If you thrive in a dynamic, research-intensive setting, possess a deep understanding of FAB operations, and are ready to make a significant impact on global technology, we encourage you to apply.

Join us in Singapore and contribute to a world-class research ecosystem where your work directly translates into real-world applications and technological breakthroughs. We offer a collaborative environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and the chance to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize advanced process control (APC) strategies and algorithms for various semiconductor manufacturing processes (e.g., lithography, etching, deposition).
  • Conduct in-depth statistical process control (SPC) analysis and fault detection and classification (FDC) to identify process deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments (DOE) within a production-scale semiconductor FAB environment to improve process capability and device performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process integration, device engineers, and equipment engineers, to achieve research objectives and technology roadmaps.
  • Troubleshoot complex process control issues and provide technical leadership for problem-solving initiatives.
  • Document research findings, present results at conferences, and contribute to scientific publications and patent applications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and researchers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in process control, artificial intelligence, and machine learning techniques relevant to semiconductor manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • PhD or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in process control, statistical process control (SPC), or fault detection within the semiconductor industry or a research FAB.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes (e.g., front-end-of-line, back-end-of-line).
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, R, JMP, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced process control (APC) systems and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and experience working in a semiconductor FAB environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and analytical rigor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary research setting.
