Job Description

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is Singapore's lead public sector agency that spearheads research and development to advance scientific discovery, technological innovation, and economic growth. The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) is a dynamic research institute co-created with industry, focusing on developing and translating cutting-edge technologies into impactful industrial solutions.

We are searching for a visionary (Senior) Research Scientist (Autonomous Systems and Robotics) to join our vibrant team. In this role, you will embody deep AI expertise and apply it to the frontier of motion learning and intelligent automation. You will lead high-impact research projects that bridge the gap between theoretical algorithms and practical robotic systems, directly influencing the future of manufacturing, logistics, and autonomous systems.

This position offers the unique opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment alongside world-class researchers and industry leaders. You will have access to state-of-the-art robotic platforms, simulation tools, and a clear pathway to translate your innovations into real-world applications. If you are driven by the challenge of making robots learn, adapt, and operate seamlessly in complex environments, we invite you to join our mission.

As a key member of the Autonomous Systems group, you will collaborate with experts in machine learning, computer vision, and control to solve some of the most challenging problems in robotics. Your work will contribute to Singapore's Smart Nation initiative and solidify ARTC's position as a global leader in applied robotics research. We offer a competitive remuneration package, excellent career development opportunities, and a supportive environment that encourages high-impact publication and industry engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute research projects in autonomous navigation, manipulation, and human-robot interaction.
  • Develop novel machine learning algorithms for robot motion planning, learning from demonstration, and adaptive control.
  • Design and deploy robust perception systems using computer vision and deep learning for object detection, tracking, and scene understanding.
  • Create and maintain advanced software architectures in ROS/ROS2, C++, and Python for complex robotic systems.
  • Collaborate closely with industry partners to translate research outcomes into commercially viable technologies and prototypes.
  • Publish original research in leading international journals and conferences (e.g., ICRA, IROS, CoRL, IJRR).
  • Mentor and supervise a team of research engineers, associates, and PhD students.
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals and secure competitive grants.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in at least one of the following areas: motion planning, reinforcement learning, optimal control, or computer vision.
  • Strong publication record in top-tier robotics and AI venues.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ with experience in software engineering best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with robotic hardware (e.g., robotic arms, mobile bases, sensors).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and collaborative environment.
  • For the Senior position, at least 3 years of post-doctoral or industry research experience is preferred.
