Job Description
Are you ready to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence? The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) invites passionate and visionary researchers to join our Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) as a (Senior) Scientist, Aural & Language Intelligence. In this role, you will lead and contribute to groundbreaking research in speech, audio, and natural language processing—with a focus on developing state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal AI systems that solve real-world challenges.
You will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment alongside world-class scientists and engineers. Your research will span from fundamental algorithmic innovations to applied systems that enhance human-computer interaction, automate knowledge extraction, and improve accessibility. We are looking for innovators who thrive on turning complex problems into elegant solutions and who are eager to see their work deployed in commercial and public sector applications.
At A*STAR, you will have access to cutting-edge computing resources, a rich ecosystem of academic and industry partners, and the opportunity to publish in top-tier venues. If you are driven by the mission to advance AI and make a tangible impact on society, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct advanced research in speech recognition, natural language understanding, and LLM-based systems.
- Develop novel algorithms and models for aural and language intelligence, including multilingual and multimodal AI.
- Lead the creation of large-scale datasets and training pipelines for next-generation LLMs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research prototypes into production-grade solutions.
- Publish findings in top-tier international conferences and journals.
- Mentor junior researchers and interns, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Engage with industry partners to identify real-world problems and co-develop impactful AI applications.
- Contribute to grant writing and project reporting to secure continued funding for research initiatives.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field.
- Proven track record of research excellence in speech, audio processing, natural language processing, or LLMs, evidenced by publications in top venues (e.g., ACL, NeurIPS, ICASSP, Interspeech).
- Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
- Hands-on experience with training, fine-tuning, and deploying large-scale transformer models.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural team.
- At least 3 years of post-PhD research experience for Senior Scientist level; exceptional early-career candidates will be considered for Scientist level.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and lead independent research projects.
