Job Description

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is a leading global research organization headquartered in Singapore. Our mission is to propel scientific discovery and innovation to benefit society and the economy. We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Senior Scientist I, Food & Nutrition to join our dynamic research team focusing on cutting-edge GPCR (G-Protein Coupled Receptor) studies.

As a Senior Scientist, you will spearhead the development of innovative functional assays to unravel the roles of GPCRs in food perception, nutrient sensing, and metabolic regulation. You will work at the intersection of food science and molecular pharmacology, translating fundamental insights into applications that improve human health and nutrition.

Key aspects of the role include leading independent research projects, collaborating with interdisciplinary scientists, and contributing to A*STAR’s strategic initiatives in precision nutrition and functional foods. You will have access to world-class facilities, including advanced cell culture labs, high-content screening systems, and bioinformatics platforms.

We offer a stimulating research environment, competitive remuneration, and opportunities for professional growth. If you are passionate about making an impact at the nexus of food and health, we invite you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate functional cell-based assays for GPCR targets to support food and nutrition research programs.
  • Lead and manage research projects, ensuring timely delivery of milestones and objectives.
  • Analyze complex data sets and interpret results to drive scientific decision-making.
  • Present research outcomes at internal meetings and international scientific conferences.
  • Publish high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervise and mentor junior scientists, research associates, and students.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to advance translational research.
  • Contribute to grant writing and fundraising activities to secure research funding.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Food Science, Nutrition, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in GPCR biology or functional assay development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cell culture, transfection, and assay technologies (e.g., FLIPR, HTRF, BRET, or similar).
  • Strong publication record in internationally recognized journals.
  • Experience with high-throughput screening (HTS) and automation is an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven track record of leading research projects and mentoring team members.
