Job Description
We are seeking a capable Site Civil Engineer to bridge the gap between technical plans and on-site execution in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. As the primary liaison between design teams and construction crews, you will ensure that civil works are built to specification, compliant with local standards, and delivered on schedule. This role offers exposure to infrastructure projects including earthworks, drainage, roadworks, and site utilities, with opportunities to grow within our organization while contributing to resilient, high-quality public and private sector projects.
Working with a dynamic team, you will interpret design documents, supervise on-site activities, and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with engineers, contractors, safety officers, and authorities to translate design intent into tangible results, manage RFI workflows, review submittals, and support project managers with cost-control and risk mitigation. Responsibilities
- Oversee daily site activities for civil works (earthworks, drainage, roads) ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
- Interpret design documents, shop drawings, and specifications; provide on-site technical guidance to contractors and field crews.
- Monitor progress, quality assurance/quality control, and schedule adherence; maintain accurate site records and daily logs.
- Liaise with project managers, consultants, clients, subcontractors, and local authorities to secure approvals and inspections.
- Identify and resolve on-site design clashes, material substitutions, and constructability issues in a timely manner.
- Review and approve RFI responses, submittals, and material deliveries to ensure conformance.
- Enforce safety and environmental policies; lead toolbox talks and promote a safety-first culture on site.
- Prepare as-built documentation, conclude project closeout activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; professional registration is a plus.
- 2+ years of site civil engineering experience, preferably in roadworks, drainage, and earthworks.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Office; familiarity with project management tools is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of local codes, standards, and regulatory requirements in Malaysia.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills; ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong attention to detail, quality control, and documentation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents; proactive in issue resolution.
- Willingness to work at or travel to project sites in Kota Kinabalu and surrounding areas; valid driving license preferred.
