Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the wastewater treatment plant to ensure optimal performance and strict adherence to Department of Environment (DOE) regulations.
- Manage, train, and mentor a team of plant operators, conducting performance evaluations and coordinating shift schedules efficiently.
- Monitor chemical dosing and sludge management processes to ensure treatment efficiency and environmental compliance.
- Conduct regular inspections of mechanical equipment, pumps, and control systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure smooth operations.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, including pipe blockages and equipment failures, to minimize service disruption and public impact.
- Prepare and submit accurate operational reports, including daily logs, maintenance records, and performance summaries.
- Ensure all safety protocols and workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations are strictly followed by the team at all times.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience in wastewater treatment or sewage management operations.
- Familiarity with DOE Malaysia regulations, environmental compliance procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to supervise a diverse team effectively in a technical setting.
- Valid Malaysian driving license and willingness to travel to various plant locations within Penang.
- Technical knowledge of SCADA systems, aeration processes, and sludge handling is highly preferred.
