Job Description
Scanmar Maritime Services is seeking a highly skilled and safety-oriented Fitter to join our crew on a container vessel. We are a premier maritime manning agency specializing in a wide range of fleets, including container ships, bulk carriers, oil tankers, and ro-ro vessels. As a Fitter, you will play a critical role in maintaining the vessel's operational efficiency through precise fabrication, welding, and mechanical repairs.
This is an urgent deployment for a 7-month contract. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate technical excellence, resilience, and a commitment to maritime safety standards. Responsibilities
- Execute welding, grinding, and fabrication tasks in accordance with vessel safety protocols and engineering specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of deck machinery, engine room equipment, and shipboard piping systems.
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to carry out complex mechanical repairs.
- Ensure that all hot work operations are performed safely and compliant with international maritime regulations.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of workshop tools, welding supplies, and spare parts.
- Assist engine room staff with machinery overhauls and technical troubleshooting.
- Adhere to strict safety procedures and perform all tasks in compliance with MARPOL and SOLAS regulations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Fitter on container vessels or similar cargo ships.
- Valid maritime certification and required STCW training documentation.
- Advanced proficiency in Arc Welding, Gas Welding, and TIG/MIG welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and ship design schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure maritime environment.
- Valid Seaman's Book and relevant national/international certificates.
- Physically fit and medically cleared for sea service.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a multicultural crew.
