Responsibilities
- Lead the development and optimization of climate and weather modeling applications on high-performance computing infrastructure
- Collaborate with climate scientists and researchers to translate scientific requirements into efficient computational solutions
- Design and implement parallel algorithms and workflows for large-scale climate simulations
- Optimize HPC system performance and resource utilization for climate modeling workloads
- Provide technical guidance and support for researchers utilizing NSCC's supercomputing resources
- Conduct performance analysis, benchmarking, and tuning of climate models
- Develop documentation, training materials, and best practices for HPC climate modeling tools
Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Earth Sciences, or related field
- Proven experience in high-performance computing (HPC) environments and cluster management
- Strong programming skills in Python, Fortran, C/C++, or similar languages
- Experience with climate modeling frameworks, weather prediction models, or similar scientific applications
- Familiarity with parallel computing technologies (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA) and job scheduling systems
- Understanding of climate data formats (NetCDF, GRIB, HDF5) and data analysis techniques
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams
