As Legal Manager, you will collaborate closely with internal business units, external counsel, and regulatory authorities. Your responsibilities will include drafting and reviewing complex commercial agreements, advising on new products and services, managing litigation, and ensuring adherence to banking laws and regulations. Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice and support to all business units, ensuring compliance with Malaysian banking laws and regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including loan agreements, vendor contracts, and partnership documents.
- Manage and oversee litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution processes, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
- Advise on new product launches, digital banking initiatives, and regulatory changes to mitigate legal risks.
- Develop and implement internal legal policies, procedures, and training programs to promote compliance awareness.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters affecting the bank.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as Bank Negara Malaysia and assist in regulatory filings and audits.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions by conducting due diligence and structuring deals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent from a recognized university; qualified to practice law in Malaysia.
- Minimum 5–7 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in a bank, financial institution, or top-tier law firm.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian banking laws, corporate law, contract law, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and managing complex legal projects.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing a legal team or mentoring junior associates.
- High level of integrity, professional ethics, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal research tools; familiarity with e-discovery and contract management software is a plus.
