We are looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to champion technical excellence within our Managing General Agents (MGAs) framework.
In this critical position, you will be the cornerstone of our MGA partnerships, ensuring all business activities are conducted with the utmost prudence, efficiency, and compliance. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring technical strategies that drive sustainable growth and robust risk management across the MGA portfolio.
Your deep expertise in general insurance underwriting and technical services will be leveraged to assess complex risks, design innovative insurance products, and streamline operational workflows. You will work closely with MGAs to enhance their capabilities, audit their performance, and resolve intricate technical issues, ensuring alignment with MSIG's high standards and regulatory obligations.
Furthermore, you will play a key role in driving data-driven insights to optimize portfolio profitability. Your strategic input will influence product development, pricing, and reinsurance strategies. Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of Technical Services related to the MGA (Managing General Agent) portfolio, ensuring compliance with internal underwriting guidelines, service level agreements (SLAs), and regulatory standards.
- Develop, implement, and regularly review technical processes, policies, and best practices to enhance operational efficiency and risk management across the MGA channel.
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and onboarding of new MGAs, conducting thorough technical due diligence and capability assessments.
- Monitor the performance of existing MGA partnerships, including portfolio profitability, claims ratios, and underwriting quality, and provide strategic recommendations for improvement.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for MGAs, resolving complex underwriting and product issues, and providing expert guidance on risk assessment and pricing.
- Conduct regular audits and quality assurance reviews of MGA operations to ensure adherence to delegated authority limits and company standards.
- Collaborate with Product Development, Actuarial, and Claims teams to design and refine products that meet market needs while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Mentor and develop junior technical staff within the team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, or a related field. Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., ACII, ANZIIF) are highly advantageous.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in the general insurance industry, with a strong focus on underwriting, technical services, or MGA management.
- In-depth knowledge of general insurance products, including Property, Casualty, Marine, and Liability classes.
- Proven experience in developing and managing MGA or Third-Party Administrator (TPA) partnerships is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound technical decisions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build rapport with both internal and external parties.
- Self-motivated and results-driven, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in using data analytics tools and insurance management systems to drive performance insights and operational reporting.
