Job Description
Böhler Welding is seeking a motivated Research and Development Junior Engineer to join our Indonesia-based team. In this role, you will contribute to the testing and improvement of welding consumables used in diverse industries, working closely with Group R&D to support new product development and process optimization.
As part of the R&D group, you will design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data, and translate findings into practical product enhancements. You will document protocols, prepare technical reports, and present results to internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment with safety and quality standards.
Your work will directly influence the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of our welding consumables, from lab-scale tests to support for pilot runs. You will collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and technical service teams to implement improvements and help scale successful concepts to production.

Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, and document experiments to evaluate welding consumables and their performance.
- Analyze test data, summarize results, and propose product improvements based on evidence.
- Develop and validate test protocols, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate with Group R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to optimize processes and scale successful concepts.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and updates for stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., AWS/EN welding standards).
- Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration, and data recording systems.
- Support ongoing and new product development initiatives with a proactive, results-driven mindset.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in welding processes, metallurgy, and welding consumables.
- Experience with experimental design, data analysis (Excel, Minitab, Python/R) and reporting.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Familiarity with lab safety practices and relevant welding standards (AWS, EN).
- Fluency in Indonesian; professional proficiency in English is a plus.
