Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing all engine room operations and maintenance activities
- Monitor and maintain main engine, auxiliary machinery, and propulsion systems to ensure optimal performance
- Supervise and coordinate the work of junior engine room personnel and cadets
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all mechanical and electrical equipment
- Maintain accurate engine room logs, records, and documentation in compliance with maritime regulations
- Manage fuel oil operations, consumption calculations, and inventory control
- Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and other international maritime safety standards
- Coordinate with deck department for port operations, cargo handling, and emergency drills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent from a Maritime Academy
- Valid Second Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (COC) - STCW III/2 or III/3 level
- Minimum 2 years of experience as Second Engineer or 3 years as Third Engineer on container or cargo vessels
- Comprehensive knowledge of main engine systems, auxiliary equipment, and deck machinery
- Familiarity with ISM Code, STCW regulations, and Philippine maritime requirements
- Proficiency in engine room management software and diagnostic tools
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Physically fit and medically cleared for sea service; holder of valid seaman's book
