Job Description
The Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) invites applications for a Senior Postdoctoral/Clinical Research Fellow to conduct cutting‑edge population health research focused on eye diseases and vision health in Singapore. The successful candidate will design and implement epidemiological studies, analyse large datasets, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to generate evidence that informs public health policy and clinical practice. This role offers the opportunity to lead research projects, mentor junior staff, publish in high‑impact journals, and contribute to grant applications. Situated in the vibrant Outram district, SERI provides a dynamic environment with access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities and a network of local and international partners.
As a Senior Fellow, you will be expected to translate research findings into actionable insights, present results at conferences, and engage with stakeholders including healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organisations. The position is ideal for researchers seeking to deepen their expertise in population health while contributing to SERI’s mission of preventing vision loss and promoting eye health across the population.
In addition to research duties, the Fellow will participate in training workshops, contribute to SERI’s outreach programmes, and assist in the supervision of PhD and master’s students. The role is offered on a contract basis, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead population health studies on ocular diseases and visual impairment.
- Manage data collection, cleaning, and statistical analysis using software such as R, SAS, or Stata.
- Prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Collaborate with clinicians, public health officials, and community partners to translate research into policy and practice.
- Mentor and supervise junior researchers, postgraduate students, and research assistants.
- Assist in writing grant proposals and managing project budgets and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, IRB requirements, and data protection regulations.
Qualifications
- PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Ophthalmology, Biostatistics, or a closely related discipline.
- Proven track record of peer‑reviewed publications in population health or epidemiology.
- Strong expertise in statistical modelling and analysis of large health datasets.
- Experience with survey design, cohort studies, and health‑services research.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to convey complex findings to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of ethical standards and regulatory requirements for health research in Singapore.
