Job Description
PERSOL is seeking a highly motivated Set Up Technician to join our manufacturing team in Bayan Lepas, Penang. In this contract role, you will be responsible for tooling staging, die set-up, and preventive maintenance of production machines to ensure smooth changeovers and uptime. This role supports high-mix, low-volume or high-volume manufacturing depending on the line. You will coordinate with equipment operators, maintenance technicians, and engineering to prepare die assemblies, align tooling, and verify setup using standard checklists and process documentation.
Key responsibilities include performing die changes, adjusting tooling alignment, recording setup parameters, monitoring machine performance, and executing preventive maintenance tasks according to scheduled calendars. You will also investigate setup-related issues, implement corrective actions, and contribute to continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing setup times and downtime. A strong emphasis on safety, quality, and housekeeping is essential.
The successful candidate will have basic mechanical skills, the ability to read drawings and setup instructions, and a proactive mindset to anticipate issues before production begins. This is a contract/temporary opportunity offering competitive compensation within the local market, with potential for extension based on performance and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Set up, align, and change tooling and die components for production lines
- Execute die changes and verify setup parameters against SOPs
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on production equipment
- Troubleshoot setup-related issues and coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams
- Document setups, downtime, and spare parts usage for traceability
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work area following safety protocols
- Collaborate with operators to optimize changeover times and line readiness
Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training; relevant manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience with die set up, tooling staging, or machine setup
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to read drawings or setup instructions
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance concepts and basic troubleshooting
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
- Willingness to work in Bayan Lepas, Penang; flexible to shifts as needed
